Happy Holidays, everyone! I'm getting back into writing! #CoverReveal

Back in 1985, I first started writing (and re-writing) a Time Travel novella, Jan of Cleveland. I tried it as a screenplay, then as a short radio play which I had aired on KFAI, public access radio Minneapolis/St. Paul in 1994. In 1999, a good friend and co-worker at the University of Minnesota told me about iUniverse and their $150 publishing program. I published it in 1999, then re-wrote it and re-published it in 2001. Back then, social media was in its infancy and you had to buy expensive display ads in magazines in order to get publicity.

I pretty much gave up on writing until 2011. I completely re-wrote Jan for about the seventh time and sold it on Amazon as an ebook. Since I only attracted trolls as reviewers, I gave up and got into blogging and text editing. After nearly nine years of this good writing experience, I am finishing up an eighth complete overhaul of the novella and having some book club friends critique it for me.

I am thinking it will be released next month. I have renamed it Maiden Voyage and have taken the pen name of Liz Meegan, my first and middle name. I am inspired by Ray Charles whose real name is Ray Robinson, but because of Sugar Ray Robinson, used his first and middle name.

Five Stars for Dead Air: A Talk Radio Mystery by Mary Kennedy.

I never publish book reviews unless I give them five stars.

So here goes...

This is a good book to relax with. The kind that keeps you reading and makes you laugh. 

Maggie Walsh left her psychotherapy practice in Manhattan to be the star of a talk radio show in Cypress Grove, Florida. When the overweight self-help Guru is a guest on her show and ends up dead in his hotel room, one of his acolytes is a major suspect. She happens to be Maggie's roommate, Lark. And Rafe, the hot and spicy detective won't believe a word Lark says and firmly tells Maggie not to meddle. Funny and unexpectedly helpful is Maggie's mother Lola, who played a minor part in a soap opera, but never gives up hope of being a star. I laughed a lot and look forward to reading more. And there are three more books in the Talk Radio series.

Aunt Sally's Debut: Two delightful rhyming books by Jean Peel.

Yay! A Cozy Mystery on Mackinac Island! Tandem Demise by Duffy Brown

During the Summer of 1974, I sold fudge on Mackinac Island. I was 19, made lots of friends and had fun. If I didn't have time for breakfast, I would eat a slice of chocolate walnut fudge and have a cup of coffee. I could get away with that then.  My parents came to visit and fell in love with it. I felt sad in August when I had to take the ferry back to the mainland. Whenever I hear Elton John's Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, it reminds me of that day. So, when I saw that Tandem Demise takes place on Mackinac Island, my ears pricked up.

So, here's the synopsis:

After solving two murders, bike shop owner Evie Bloomfield thought life on Mackinac Island would settle into boredom until she finds out Nate Sutter, island police chief and once-upon-a-time under cover cop is on the run. Some badass guys from Nate’s Detroit days think he stole money from them in a champagne smuggling operation and now they’re headed to the island to get their loot. Evie is determined to help Nate because he’s a good cop, Nate is determined to keep interfering Evie and island locals out of harms way, and the crooks are determined to get their money.

To add to the island’s problems there’s a dead guy on the dock and the new wedding planner is more interested in playing bedroom bingo than ordering bridal bouquets. 

With the help of Fiona, Evie’s BFF and local newspaper editor, Evie is determined to prove Nate innocent, figure out how champagne smuggling, bodies on the dock and a bad wedding planner are tied together and not wind up taking a long walk off a short pier herself.

Twice as Fatal: Perfect for football season! And it's $3.99.

I was just feeling happy about my favorite kind of day: a cool, clear, crisp October day. Sunny, but with just the right amount of warmth when the sun is up. This is my favorite time of year with marching bands, autumn leaves and pumpkin muffins. Seeking Asylum.

Yvette Grimm comes to Australia on a tourist visa which is running out. She does not want to 'get married for a Green Card' as we say in the United States. A psychic said she would meet the father of her children by the time she's 30 and she's 29. Will she be able to stay? At what cost?

I went on author Isobel Blackthorn's website and read about Asylum. While doing so, I came across a few paragraphs on why Isobel wrote the book. I found it quite interesting, so I'm sharing it with you.

WHY I WROTE THE NOVEL ASYLUM

Asylum, started life in 2012 and is semi-autobiographical in that the protagonist, Yvette Grimm is a British-born visa overstayer seeking refuge in Australia and so was I. Although that is where the similarities end.

Migration stories are often painful and fraught, and Yvette’s is typical of what migrants go through when they try to sidestep the rules. Yvette’s story is juxtaposed with the conditions asylum seekers arriving by boat face in offshore camps. The story is ironic, Yvette’s suffering of her own making and really rather trivial in the wider scheme of things.

At the time of writing I was involved in helping asylum seekers, especially those who had made it to Australia on bridging visas. It was a gnawing sense of injustice that caused me to keep working on Asylum,motivated by a wish to make a contribution in raising awareness of the issue. Although it is not a book about asylum seekers. It is a story of belonging and alienation, a coming of age story.

Speaking of class reunions...Lady Justice is going, too!

My 45th high school reunion is just around the corner, but I have a family reunion to attend, so Cutie and I aren't going. Anyway, Lady Justice is crashing Walt's 50th reunion and the sparks are going to fly!

I've conquered spam on my blog! Previews of coming attractions!

In the past few weeks, Spammers were either just adding comments full of gibberish or they were trying to turn my indie writer's blog into a marketplace for video games.

I only allow members of my blog to comment now. I feel relieved. After all, I do enjoy blogging. It is my form of service to others. Follow me if you want to be a member.

Spam Trolls.

When you get a comment on your blog that has nothing to do with anything and they're trying to sell stuff, deleting the post isn't enough.

In Blogger, go to the Help menu and type in Spam. All you do is cut and paste the url (Blogger web link) of the Spam Troll then hit the Submit button.

Blogger will review that url for possible violation of terms. I recently had a problem and have since reported it to Blogger.

And to my readers, I do appreciate the good comments you have given me over the years.

Creative writers to avoid - The I can only trust you to house my valuables scam.

A few weeks ago, I was blogging about a famous singer. I wasn't careful and Tweeted to a catfish Twitter account. The next day, I had a private message. Here is her first message:

I'm looking for someone i can definitely trust because i have got some few things I need to do and take care of without my management knowing about it so i need one of my loyal fan to handle this for me...

I asked her what she needed.

I got in touched by the security company where i have my brief case kept for a while which contains some money and valuable documents that belongs to me, they are shutting down in couple of days and it has been giving me some problems since i have been busy with my shows and concert i won't have much time to take care of these responsibilities…

 

I asked her what she wanted me to do.

I am needing you to be able to take care of the delivery fee of the briefcase from the security company to your home, mind you i want you to please be secretive concerning this to avoid impostors and i would love to work with you... I also need to let you know anything you spend on this will be re-paid back to you and also compensate you for your kind heart.

I blocked her and posted the impostor's Twitter handle to the real singer's Twitter account.

I thought I was rid of that kind of contact. I recently friended an author from Australia. Soon after, I get a friend request from another woman who I thought was actually her friend.

Here is the private message she sent to me. I am deleting her name and where she lives.

Am sorry for writing late i have been busy on duty.

It interest me to contact you having got your contact while looking for a reliable and trust worthy person on Facebook that i can trust and work together on this. I am Female DR. .Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx. From united states I worked with Xxxxxxx pharmaceutic company under their search team and currently a US SGT, 

presently am working under the united state peace keeping corps in Iraq /Afghanistan/ Damascus Syria.
